Ingredients

  • 1 red onion, grated

  • 1 lb. ground beef

  • ½ lb. ground pork (or lamb)

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 cup breadcrumbs

  • 1 egg

  • ¼ cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

  • 1 tbsp fresh mint, finely chopped

  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

  • 1 tsp Papou’s Majik Mix Seasoning Blend

  • 1 tbsp white wine vinegar

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour

  • 3 tbsp + extra virgin olive oil

  • Finely chopped parsley, for garnish

Method

  • In a large bowl, combine the grated onion and its juices with the ground beef, ground pork, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, parsley, mint, olive oil, seasoning mix and vinegar.

  • Use your hands to combine the mixture until its fully combined.

  • Use a tablespoon or half an ice-cream scooper to portion out the meatballs.  Roll each meatball into 2-inch round balls.

  • Heat the oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat.

  • Place the flour into a shallow bowl.  Dredge the meatballs slightly in the flour and place a a plate until the pan is hot and the oil is shimmering.

  • Cook the meatballs in batches, not crowding the pan.  Cook for 8-10 minutes on all sides until browned all over.   Remove the meatballs from the pan to a plate.  Add additional oil if needed and repeat, cooking all the meatballs in 2-3 batches.

  • Serve with a garnish of chopped parsley and a lemon wedge if desired.
